We are an influential and future-focused organisation, working at the intersection of science, policy, and community. We’re guided by good science, cultural knowledge, and a values-based culture that reflects who we are and how we go about our work.

If you're driven to make a real impact, whether it's supporting industry transformation, driving innovation in environmental regulation, enabling clean energy, or restoring waterways we invite you to bring your talent, your ideas, and your commitment to a team that’s delivering for today and planning for tomorrow.

Be part of something bigger. Be part of DWER.

If you’re ready to apply your expertise to meaningful work that supports resilient farming systems, protects natural resources, and strengthens regional communities, we want to hear from you.

The Environmental Officer (Sustainable Agriculture) plays a key role in delivering the Healthy Estuaries WA program by coordinating the Dairy Project and supporting a range of sustainable agriculture initiatives across the south-west region. Working under guidance and in close collaboration with catchment groups, farmers, industry stakeholders, local governments and partner agencies, the position contributes to reducing nutrient and organic matter run-off and improving estuary health.

The Environmental Officer coordinates all aspects of the Dairy Project, including planning, delivery, contract management and reporting to achieve program objectives. The position provides technical and project support for sustainable agriculture initiatives, contributes specialist knowledge in dairy effluent management, and supports the Sustainable Agriculture Project Coordinator and Reference Group.

Working with catchment groups, industry and farmers, the role contributes to reducing nutrient runoff and improving the health of southwest estuaries.

In this role you will have the opportunity to apply your scientific expertise and analytical skills to real-world environmental challenges. Your interpersonal skills and commitment to teamwork will be key to thriving in a workplace that values inclusion, curiosity, and collective leadership.

Environmental Officer – Specified Calling Level 2

The Environmental Officer (Sustainable Agriculture) (SCL2) role supports planning, communication and on-ground implementation across four focus areas: dairy effluent management, fertiliser management, holistic and regenerative agriculture, and the use of soil amendments to enhance nutrient retention in agricultural soils.

The capacity to manage shifting priorities within a dynamic regulatory environment is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders. This position offers a distinctive opportunity to contribute meaningfully to environmental protection while advancing your career within a department that values innovation, integrity, and collective leadership.

About You

You will bring a Bachelor of Science or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline, with applied knowledge or experience in areas such as soil science, agronomy, agricultural science, water quality monitoring, hydrology or aquatic chemistry. You are comfortable working with scientific data and field-based information, and have well developed computing skills, using tools such as Microsoft Excel and Word to support accurate analysis, reporting and communication. A collaborative team member, you work constructively with others to achieve shared outcomes and are motivated to contribute to collective success.

You have the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, community organisations, farmers and industry representatives, building positive relationships to support program delivery. You demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the capacity to gather, interpret and clearly present technical information in both written and verbal formats, including presentations to varied audiences. You hold a current WA ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence and are willing to meet departmental requirements, including a national police check.

At the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, we are committed to fostering a modern workplace that supports flexibility, collaboration, and wellbeing.

Our flexible work arrangements include options for alternative work locations and adaptable schedules, designed to accommodate a variety of professional and personal needs.
