The Opportunity:
This is a 5-year Fixed Term opportunity
The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) plays a vital role in managing and protecting Western Australia’s water resources and environment. We are seeking an experienced and values‑driven finance leader to join our Strategy and Performance portfolio as Manager – Financial Planning. This senior role offers the opportunity to influence organisational and government outcomes through strong financial stewardship, strategic advice and leadership.
Reporting to the Assistant Director Financial Planning, the Manager – Financial Planning is responsible for leading the Department’s management accounting, internal budgeting and State Budget processes. The role provides high‑level financial insights that support executive and ministerial decision‑making and ensures financial planning activities are aligned with departmental priorities, government expectations and legislative requirements. You will lead the Financial Planning team, setting clear direction and fostering a high‑performance culture that partners effectively with the business.
We are looking for a confident and strategic finance professional with strong leadership capability and the ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights. You will hold a relevant tertiary qualification in finance, commerce, business or a related discipline and be a member of a recognised professional accounting body such as CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, or the Institute of Public Accountants. You will have demonstrated experience leading and developing teams, delivering outcomes in high‑pressure environments and working with financial information systems to support evidence‑based decision‑making. Substantial experience in internal and State budgeting processes, including budget submissions and Estimates Briefings preparation, is essential. Experience within the WA public sector, including knowledge of the Financial Management Act 2006, Treasurer’s Instructions and TechOne financial systems, will be highly regarded.
