If you're driven to make a real impact, whether it's supporting industry transformation, driving innovation in environmental regulation, enabling clean energy, or restoring waterways we invite you to bring your talent, your ideas, and your commitment to a team that’s delivering for today and planning for tomorrow.

Be part of something bigger. Be part of DWER.

  • Compliance Officer – Level 4

As a Compliance Officer, you will be part of a team responsible for delivering environmental compliance activities within the waste, recycling and resource recovery sectors. The role involves undertaking inspections, monitoring compliance with legislative requirements, engaging with industry stakeholders, analysing information, and contributing to regulatory decisions and outcomes.

This position would suit someone with strong analytical and communication skills who enjoys problem-solving, building stakeholder relationships, and working in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same. Experience in regulation, compliance, environmental management, investigations, local government, or a related field will be highly regarded.

You'll have the opportunity to work across metropolitan and regional Western Australia, helping ensure businesses understand and meet their environmental obligations while contributing to the protection of our environment

  • Senior Compliance Officer – Level 5

As a Senior Compliance Officer, you will coordinate and deliver components of the State's compliance inspection program, manage complex compliance matters, provide expert regulatory advice, contribute to strategic projects, and support the development of less experienced team members. You will apply sound judgement to complex issues and work collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve effective regulatory outcomes.

The role offers a diverse and rewarding mix of field-based and office-based work, including inspections, investigations, stakeholder engagement, project delivery, and the preparation of reports, briefings and recommendations that inform regulatory decision-making.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with demonstrated regulatory, compliance or environmental experience who is looking to broaden their impact and help shape best-practice compliance approaches across Western Australia.

At the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, we are committed to fostering a modern workplace that supports flexibility, collaboration, and wellbeing.

Our flexible work arrangements include options for alternative work locations and adaptable schedules, designed to accommodate a variety of professional and personal needs.

We recognise that effective work can happen in different settings, and our approach reflects this, enabling staff to contribute meaningfully while maintaining balance and resilience.

We are committed to creating an equitable and diverse workforce that promotes an inclusive and supportive workplace environment. We value the unique diversity of experience that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, people from culturally diverse backgrounds, women and youth bring to our workforce.
