The Opportunity:

This is a fixed term opportunity for 6 months from January 2026 with the possibility of extension. Please note that this position is open to PUBLIC SECTOR EMPLOYEES ONLY. Applications outside of the Public Sector will not be considered.

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to manage our Freedom of Information Services Section. This role is responsible for the development and delivery of services related to the release of information to external parties, including access applications under the Freedom of Information Act 1992. You will coordinate all Freedom of Information applications, review draft Notices of Decision, and provide expert advice on complex issues to ensure compliance with legislation, frameworks, and standards.

As Manager, Freedom of Information, you will lead a team to deliver services aligned with organisational objectives and oversee the Department’s information release function. You will provide expert consultancy to the Director General and internal stakeholders, represent the Department in proceedings before the Information Commissioner, and drive continuous improvement through policy development and reporting frameworks.

To succeed in this role, you will have extensive experience managing information release under the FOI Act, with a strong focus on delivering sound and robust outcomes. You will demonstrate exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities, and proven leadership experience in building team capability and fostering a values-driven culture. Strong planning and organisational skills, along with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver strategic improvements, are essential.
