The Opportunity:

This is a full-time permanent opportunity.

We’re seeking someone with a genuine interest in electronics, instrumentation, or measurement science - someone who enjoys solving technical problems and working with complex systems. Whether you’ve worked with scientific field instrumentation, built PCs or repaired electronics, this role offers the chance to apply those skills in a meaningful, real-world context. You’ll thrive here if you value autonomy, enjoy working with advanced technology, and want your work to contribute to public health and environmental protection. With access to cutting-edge equipment, flexible working arrangements, and a team committed to innovation and mentorship, this is where technical capability meets purpose-driven impact - supporting cleaner air and healthier communities across Western Australia.

As an Air Quality Officer with the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, you’ll be part of a team responsible for operating and maintaining WA’s real-time air quality monitoring network. This includes highly sensitive instruments such as gas analysers, meteorological sensors, data loggers, and remote telemetry systems. You’ll lead field-based diagnostics and repairs, coordinate maintenance schedules, and collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure the network remains accurate and reliable. It’s a hands-on, future-focused role that combines technical depth with environmental significance.

As a department we recognise that flexible working arrangements support effective work-life balance, empowers our people and increases team productivity. We are committed to creating an equitable and diverse workforce that promotes an inclusive and supportive workplace environment. We value the unique diversity of experience that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, people from culturally diverse backgrounds, women and youth bring to our workforce.

For further information about the opportunity we encourage you to contact Murray Cox, Manager Air Quality Technical Services on (08) 6364 7094 during business hours or via email at murray.cox@dwer.wa.gov.au.
